We measure the depth in several spots, check the type, and tell you how much to add. The number is in your written estimate.
Blown-in insulation fills the whole attic floor evenly, including odd spaces and around wiring, and it is the usual choice for topping up an existing attic. Batts suit open joist bays, knee walls and rafters where you want the material to stay in place. Many attics get both.
If the old insulation is dry and clean, yes. New material goes right on top after we air seal. If it is wet, moldy, matted flat or contaminated by rodents, it comes out first. Covering a problem does not fix it.
